Context

Problem

Busy workers and commuters lack the time to prepare daily meals.

Goal

Design an app for Doug’s Dogs that allows users to quickly and easily order food for takeout or delivery

User Research

A primary user group was identified through research, this group was defined as working adults who have a tight schedule due to obligations or challenges that make it difficult to get groceries for cooking or go to restaurants in-person.

Design Process

01. PAPER WIREFRAMES

Taking the time to draft iterations of each screen of the app on paper ensured that the elements that made it to digital wireframes would be well-suited to address user pain points. For the home screen, I prioritized a quick and easy ordering process to help users save time.

As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the peer review feedback.

Accessibility

Alt Text

All images are assigned an alt text value to include users with visual impairments

Redundance

Icons were used for easy navigation. Redundancy of menu was also used; users can navigate using the navigation bar icons at the bottom of the screen or using the magazine navigation text menu on the upper left corner.

Allergens

Users with food allergies or specific diet types can access ingredient and allergen information in each food item.

Impact

Doug’s Dogs focuses on the users' preferences, from ingredients and allergens for users with specific diets or allergies to delivery and pick-up date and time for users with a tight schedule.

Conclusion

While designing the Doug’s Dogs app, I learned that there are many ways of creating a successful user journey, and user feedback is the most important tool to receive the correct design choices.

Next Steps
  • Perform another round of usability studies before handing the project to the design team, to make certain that all pain points have been addressed.

  • Continue conducting user research to determine if there are other needs that are not being covered by the current user flow.
